From floating farms to concreted fields. As the world changes, so too does agriculture.
In Rotterdam, Netherlands, floating farms built on water have been developed to address the problem of limited land. This is an extraordinary and also a tremendous solution. In these developed farms, cows fed with recycled waste have become a symbol of sustainable production.
On the other hand, I examine that in Turkey, the number of farmers has decreased by 48% in the last 12 years, and agricultural lands have shrunk by 12.3%. These figures clearly reveal the decline in our agricultural sector.
Building a bridge between these two pictures has ceased to be a dream and has become a necessity. Because today, technology and sustainability are the key not only to agriculture but also to our food security, rural development, and the future. Food should be seen not just as a need, but as a vision alongside strategy.
As I research the Dutch example I mentioned, I realize that presenting ourselves as a "country of agriculture" has become just rhetoric. Our deficiency is not land; our deficiency is vision. Everyone withdraws into themselves, and this withdrawal dries up both production and hope. I love the lands of my country very much. Valuable, fertile, and bountiful. Delicate yet fragile, silently forgotten before our very eyes.
We must do something, produce, and touch life anew. Because the future of food is written not just on the farm, but in vision.
