Today, food, proteins, functional products, artificial intelligence, and sustainability are being discussed all over the world. But amidst all these discussions, there is a silent actor.
The soil.
Yet, the story of a loaf of bread, the flavor of a fruit, and the future of a child are first entrusted to the soil.
As someone who has worked with soil throughout my professional life, engaged in contract farming, and been involved in the journey of thousands of tons of wheat from field to table, I can state this very clearly:
Soil is not just an area where production takes place. It is the invisible capital of the future. We often see the harvest. But we don't see what the soil loses.
We want more production, higher yields, faster results. But do we ever consider how much the soil can endure? Because the soil also speaks. It speaks when its organic matter decreases, when its water retention capacity drops, when its biodiversity weakens.
But it doesn't do this with words, but with yields, resilience, and the silent signals it sends. The biggest food problem of the future will be not listening enough to what the soil tells us.
Technology can advance, factories can grow, production capacity can increase. However, no technology can replace healthy soil. If we are talking about the future of food today, we must first understand the foundation that makes it possible.
Sometimes the most important messages come from the quietest sources, because the future of food is written beneath the soil.
