Food Quality and the Effect of Light

Food Quality and the Effect of Light

Light.

Taste, color, nutritional value. All are shaped by light from production to shelves.

Consider an apple: if it didn't receive enough sunlight in the field, its color will be pale. If lettuce isn't grown under the right light in a greenhouse, it will taste bland and have a short shelf life. But the issue isn't just the field; the product also battles with light while on the shelf. Products exposed to supermarket light for extended periods will see their vitamin content decrease and their shelf life shorten.

Light, while nurturing growth, also ages silently. Today, not just producers, but even those designing shelves must understand this balance. Because this invisible "light effect" determines the fate of food.

I want to address my young friends. Tomorrow, shelves, labels, and production chains will be in your hands. Every young person who can perceive the unseen will advance the future of food by a step.

Realizing that light not only illuminates but also adds or consumes value lays the foundation for stronger production systems in the future.

It is necessary to understand not only the content of food but also the light that affects it. Because if there is no light, there is no flavor.
