Can doctors prescribe menemen?
Imagine you go to the doctor one day. They check your blood values, and your cholesterol is a bit high. And they say to you:
Before I prescribe medication, let's try something. Every morning, menemen with olive oil, accompanied by whole-grain bread.
Does that sound strange?
Actually, the world is heading exactly in this direction. Today, there's a growing approach in the health world:
“Food as Medicine”
Many doctors now ask the first question for some health problems:
“What are you eating?”
Because research shows that nutrition directly affects many systems, from heart health to metabolism, immunity to mental performance.
For example;
* Eggs → a source of quality protein and amino acids
* Tomatoes → contain powerful antioxidants
* Olive oil → supports cardiovascular health
* Fibrous foods → can contribute to cholesterol balance
So, some dishes can truly change the body's biochemistry. Some healthcare systems in the world are now discussing:
• Nutritional prescriptions in hospitals
• The central role of dietitians in treatment teams
• The use of functional foods in the prevention of chronic diseases
Because behind many chronic diseases are poor eating habits.
Perhaps the prescription of the future will be like this:
Morning → protein and fiber balance
Lunch → vegetable-rich plate
Evening → diet free from refined sugar
So, the prescription will not only contain drug names but also meal recommendations. In my opinion, the future of the healthcare system lies in this sentence:
“First, fix your table, then we'll talk about medicine.”
